Diversity, inclusion and reconciliation

Our operations take place on the traditional territories of many First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples across Alberta. This page sets out what we have completed, what we commit to, and how we build inclusive teams.

Land acknowledgement

Calgary: Treaty 7 territory

Our Calgary headquarters is located in Treaty 7 territory, the traditional territory of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai and Piikani), the Tsuut’ina Nation and the Îyârhe Nakoda Nations (Chiniki, Bearspaw and Goodstoney). Calgary is also home to the Métis community, including the Northwest Métis homeland and the Otipemisiwak Métis Government.

Edmonton: Treaty 6 territory

Our work in Edmonton takes place in Treaty 6 territory, with ties to the Cree, Saulteaux, Blackfoot, Dene, Nakota Sioux and Métis peoples. We recognize the diverse First Nations and Métis communities that shape the region.

Completed

Indigenous awareness education

Our regional leadership and management have completed Indigenous awareness education through Indigenous Awareness Canada. Our people interact every day with First Nations, Inuit, Métis and urban Indigenous people, and cultural awareness supports respectful communication and better decisions.

What the training covered

  • Histories and experiences of Indigenous peoples in Canada
  • Respectful terminology and communication
  • Intergenerational effects of residential schools
  • Indigenous rights, cultures and present-day realities
  • Stereotypes, misconceptions and unconscious bias
  • The role security staff play in building respectful relationships

Ongoing

Our reconciliation commitments

We acknowledge the lasting, intergenerational harm caused by colonialism, residential schools, forced displacement and systemic discrimination, and that interactions between Indigenous communities and security institutions have often involved mistrust. We commit to helping rebuild trust through cultural awareness, respectful service and accountability.

  • Extend Indigenous awareness education to all personnel, from frontline staff to executives
  • Create pathways for Indigenous employment, training, advancement and leadership in security
  • Build long-term, respectful partnerships with Indigenous Nations, businesses and organizations
  • Promote respectful security practices grounded in cultural awareness, fairness and dignity
  • Review our commitments regularly, listen to Indigenous perspectives and turn words into action
